So Many People Fail To Follow This Simple Rule When Trying To Make Money

Having worked online for a number of years now, I’ve used a variety of different methods to make money. Not all of them have worked, but most have. One thing that I’ve learned in my time is that it’s much easier to make money when you believe in the method you’re using.

I’ve spent hours and hours on methods that I’m not convinced about and it makes it so much harder to move forward.

Generally what happens is I spend a long time on the set up, but don’t see it through, so it was a total waste of my time.

It really is what separates success and failure. No one ever really fails when trying to make money, they simple give up before that start to see results.

So why do people give up if the method works?

people failing to make moneyIn my experience it’s because we set unrealistic expectations, or expect something to happen sooner than it should. We have to remember there are no push button solutions to generating an income online.

If there was we would all be rich!

There are methods that can produce quick results, but there are also methods that take a little bit of time.

The first thing we all need to do when starting with a new method is set realistic targets.

That way you can manage your expectation.

I had a friend that wanted to make some money and he was interested in Youtube. I sat down with him and showed him how to get set up, all he needed to do was decide on a topic for his channel and come up with good ideas for video content.

He spent ages setting the channel up… working on a nice looking profile picture and cover design.

He was looking at other channels in his niche to see how they designed their video thumbnails and what tags they were using on their videos etc.

He was trying to understand everything there was to know before moving forward with his own video content. After a little while he rang me to say he wasn’t going to carry on because he’d spent too long on it and hadn’t earned any money yet!

It’s a classic case of setting unrealistic targets and also spending too much time on the wrong jobs!

Why was he expecting to make any money with 2 videos on his channel? What value is he offering to have any kind of claim to earnings?

I decided I would take over his channel and within 3 weeks I was generating some revenue every week. It wasn’t much to start with, but it was something.

What’s important to remember is that I saw something was happening so decided to keep adding more content and before too long the channel was generating revenue every day.

Again it wasn’t much, but after a few months the channel was generating around $750 per month.

What made the difference?

I don’t think I spent as long on the channel as my friend did. Ok fair enough, he set it up and I didn’t have to worry about spending time on that, but how much impact did all his time spent on the design elements have on the results I managed to get?

Maybe a little, but could I have generated some sales without the same level of design?

Yes!

quality content drives trafficOf course, your channel and thumbnails etc should look good but the point is without content it’s pointless.

What happened to my friend is pretty much the same that happens to most people trying to make money online.

People start with good intentions and get stuck in. Spend too much time on the wrong tasks and start to get demotivated when they are not seeing any income.

What we have to remember when working online, is that the internet is all about content!

I’ve had sites that are awful to look at but have good content. At the end of the day you can make you site, or YouTube channel look the best designed on the internet but without content you have no traffic!

The best way to do anything is to focus on content and traffic, then worry about what it looks like.

You can make money with traffic, you can’t without it

When you start seeing traffic hit your site then you can worry about the design. There is every chance you can then increase your earnings by tweaking the design, but why waste that time if you don’t know you are ever going to get traffic?

It might seem obvious to most people but I see the same thing time and time again!

To wrap this post up I’m going to give you an example. Amazon is one of the worst looking sites on the internet and it hasn’t really changed that much since it went live back in the 90’s, but it’s also one of the biggest in terms of the amount of money in takes on a daily basis.

Please feel free to leave a comment (or email me) if you have any questions relating to this post, or making money in general. I’m always here to help and love to interact with people on this topic.

P.S My friend wanted his channel back when he saw it was generating an income!!
